What to Have Ready

None of this is required to start a conversation — but having it to hand turns a two-day quote into a same-day one.

  • What your crew actually does on a normal day. Classification drives your rate more than anything else, and it follows the real work rather than what is printed on the licence.
  • Annual payroll, split by type of work. Workers' compensation is priced per $100 of payroll, so a rough split between field and office is enough to get close.
  • Gross annual receipts. This is normally the exposure basis for general liability.
  • Your current declarations page, if you already carry coverage. It tells us your limits, your carrier and your renewal date in one glance.
  • Loss runs for the last three to five years. Carriers will ask, and a clean history is worth real money.
  • Vehicle list with VINs and drivers, if you need commercial auto.
  • Any certificate requirements you have been handed — required limits, additional insured wording, waiver of subrogation. We would rather match the contract the first time.

Where We Work

We are based in Fort Myers and write commercial coverage throughout the State of Florida. Most of our work sits in the Southwest Florida corridor — Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties — where we know the permitting offices, the carriers who actually want contractor business, and the certificate requirements that come up again and again.

That includes Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Punta Gorda, Lehigh Acres and Sanibel. If you are outside that corridor but still in Florida, call anyway — we write statewide.

GL Insurance Brokers is an independent, veteran-owned brokerage. Because we are independent we are not tied to one carrier's appetite, which matters a great deal in Florida construction where a single carrier declining your class code can otherwise stop the process dead. More about who we are.

Common Questions

How quickly will I hear back?

A specialist contacts you within one business day. If you need a certificate urgently to get on a job, call (239) 898-2323 rather than using the form — we can often turn a certificate around the same day.

Do I have to buy anything to get a quote?

No. Quotes are free and there is no obligation. We would rather tell you your current policy is already competitive than move you for the sake of it.

I only have one employee. Do I really need workers' comp?

In Florida construction, yes. Chapter 440 of the Florida Statutes requires coverage from the first employee for construction businesses. Non-construction employers reach the requirement at four employees. Officer exemptions exist but are limited, and they do not cover your crew.

Can you quote general liability and workers' comp together?

Yes, and you should ask us to. Most Florida contracts require both, the two policies are priced off related information, and quoting them together usually shortens the whole process considerably.
